The "Woodswoman" series is quite interesting if you love nature and enjoy stories of people building their own log cabins in the wilderness, and their adventures in the wild. Anne La Bastille's home wasn't complete wilderness -- she writes at length of problems with vacationers roaring loud motorboats on her idyllic Adirondack lake -- and of neighbors nearby. However, her books are full of adventures with wild animals, as well as her beloved German Shepherds.These books are homey and genuine, heartfelt, warm and enjoyable, but they are not particularly literary, which was a disappointment to me. After reading all the excellent reviews of her books, I expected fine writing, but found nothing of the quality one could enjoy in "Wild" by Cheryl Strayed, or "Indian Creek Chronicles" by Pete Fromm, or "Call of the AMerican Wild" by Guy Grieve. It is best to approach these books without expectations that you will be stimulated by their literary quality, but rather approach them as you would the stories that a friend shared with you.
In many ways, I enjoyed this more than her first Woodswoman book (with the exception of the entire chapter devoted to acid rain and nuclear waste.) Anne builds another cabin further into the wilderness. Even in the deep thicket she encounters government red tape and zoning laws, and she has to settle for a very small cabin.In this book Anne spends more time in the woods, building her cabin with the help of friends. Her words paint us a picture, making the reader feel omnipresent during each adventure. Anne speaks about serious accidents she had, including a mishap with a sack of cement that could have permanently blinded her. After losing her beloved dog, she takes in another, mates it and keeps a pup. She finds a new love interest, and she introduces us to a number of new people.Anne lives the life we all fantasize about at times. I could never do it, but reading about it through Anne's eyes and words is almost like being there.
I never want any of Anne's books to end! She was such a wonderful writer and I really wish I had known of her long before now. She was an encourager and fighter and such a voice for nature! Anyone who wants an adventure in reading about outdoors and how someone can make a difference in the world around you, don't miss any of Anne's books!
A woman that should be an inspiration to all. A very intelligent, motivated individual who attempts to improve not only herself but society.

Good book except for the cussing. Seller was very good.
She was a great writer and a great conservationist! I want to read everything she ever wrote!
Really enjoy Anne Labastille's books...lots of details and her thoughtful insights make me more aware of how man impacts nature.
